Description: Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project
Pre-owned Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project Limited Edition ref 311.32.42.30.04.001 (2008) differs from your typical Speedy. It's an homage to the Alaska II project dreamed up by Omega decades ago to develop the perfect watch for NASA space travel, complete with a large red heat shield and a white dial to reflect sunlight. Omega produced ref. 311.32.42.30.04.001 in 2008, in quantities of just 1,970 watches. It builds upon the standard Moon Watch design set with charming rocket-shaped sub-dial hands and what Omega calls an aluminum "thermal shield" initially developed to withstand temperatures on the dark side of the Moon ranging from -148C to +260C. Our example comes with the removable thermal shield bezel, additional white Velcro textile strap, and limited series card. It sports a Hesalite crystal and caliber 1861 hand-wound movement like many modern Moon Watches but with a striking white dial.
