Pre-Owned Watch Condition Examination:
This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with normal wear. The matte black dial is in good condition with light patina. The bezel insert is in great condition and is a later replacement. The lume on the dial have developed patina and aged to an eggshell white color. The hands have developed light patina and the lume in the hands has aged matching the lume on the dial; the lume in the seconds hand has been redone and is darker than the other hands. The bracelet is in great condition with light wear.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 16800 (Circa 1984) is the best of both worlds when it comes to a dive watch with a vintage aesthetic but also all the usual modern amenities, such as a high-beat Perpetual movement with a Quickset date, scratch-resistant sapphire, a uni-directional time-lapse bezel, and Tritium lume in glitzier white gold surrounds. At the same time, ref. 16800 also sports an older-style case and bracelet. Rolex produced reference 16800 for a few years between the late 1970s and the 1980s, during which the model was equipped with a matte dial with painted indices, followed by the glossy dial example you see here. It holds a special place in Rolex history as a transitional model that bridges the gap between vintage 4-digit Rolexes and the modern aesthetics we've come to know and love today.

Watch was in condition as pictured and described. Some major dents and scuffs on the bracelet/end-link were hidden well by the lighting but were very noticeable in person. Overall the watch was in great shape for the age.

I’ve bought multiple modern pieces from Bob’s and had a great experience every time. I’ve been looking to buy a birth year Rolex for awhile now and for me, that’s a late production run 16800. Couldn’t be happier with the watch and for those out there looking for a Sub, you should seriously consider the 16800. It has some great “modern” features, but holds true to a more vintage feel and elegance. Incredibly comfortable on the wrist and will undoubtedly continue to grow in value in my opinion. It’s a can’t miss buy all the way around.
