5512 Vintage Submariner 5512 “Matte Dial, Meters First” 1967-1969 When Rolex replaced the gilt-gloss dials with matte dials on the vintage Submariner 5512, the water depth rating had meters measurement first followed by feet. Questions And Answers On How To Sell A Rolex Submariner

How Much is a Rolex Submariner Worth?

How much a Rolex Submariner is worth is dependent on a range of factors including age, condition, rarity, collectability, material, and current demand. For example, the least expensive current Submariner is the reference 114060, which is priced $7,900 at retail, and the least expensive current Submariner Date is the reference 116010, which is priced $8,950 at retail. However, in the secondary market, these particular Submariner watches are worth more due to booming demand and supply shortage. On the other end of the spectrum, it is not uncommon to find rare Rolex Submariner models and collectible vintage Submariner valued in the six-figure range.

Where Is The Best Place To Sell My Rolex Watch?

While there are many places you can sell a Rolex watch, the best place would be a dealer that specializes in pre-owned Rolex watches. Bob's Watches is the leading and most trusted online marketplace for buying and selling used Rolex watches—including all Submariner watch models. We make it easy for clients looking to sell Rolex watches to find out exactly how much their Rolex is worth. Plus, Bob's has also simplified the shipping, inspection, and payout process to guarantee that you not only get the best price for your Rolex watch but topnotch service too.

You can expect the highest prices, fastest payments, and best service if you sell your Rolex watch to Bob’s Watches.

Is A Rolex Submariner A Good Investment?

Generally speaking, a Rolex Submariner is a good investment in the realm of luxury watches. Historical data shows that the Rolex Submariner has resale values that are either close to or even above the initial purchased price. This is true of stainless steel Submariners more so than precious metal Submariner watches. While investing is an inherently risky endeavor, when it comes to buying a luxury watch that will retain value over time, the Rolex Submariner is a solid choice compared to many other watch brands and models.

How Much Can I Get For A Rolex At A Pawnshop?

You probably won't get much for a Rolex at a pawnshop. Pawnshops buy and sell all kinds of goods and are not particularly specialized in luxury timepieces and Rolex watches. As such, they will almost always undervalue your Rolex since they are not experts in the field. It takes a lot of knowledge and skill to properly appraise a Rolex watch, considering all the small details that can have significant impact on the value. Pawnshops are simply not equipped to correctly evaluate a Rolex and are known to offer some of the lowest prices for high-end luxury watches.

Can I Sell A Rolex Without A Certificate?

Yes, you can certainly sell a Rolex without a certificate. Although original box and papers are always appreciated when selling a pre-owned Rolex and will add value to the sale of the watch, it is not necessary. Our team of in-house watch experts can inspect a Rolex to determine its authenticity, condition, and market value without a certificate. However, if you think you have the Rolex certificate somewhere, it is definitely worth looking for it before selling your Rolex watch as it does make selling easier and can increase the overall price.

Can You Tell If A Rolex Is Stolen?

Each Rolex watch comes engraved with a unique serial number (found either on the exterior of the case hidden behind the bracelet at 6 o'clock or on the rehaut beneath the crystal). If an owner has their Rolex watch stolen, they should first file a police report and then report it to Rolex’s Lost and Stolen Watch Department. Rolex will then flag this unique serial number as stolen in its database.

How Do I Know if My Rolex Is Genuine?

Due to the high value and popularity of Rolex watches, there is unfortunately plenty of fake Rolex watches in the market. There are many ways to tell if a Rolex is genuine or not. At the most basic level, understand that genuine Rolex watches are high-quality timepieces built to exacting standards. Everything should be perfectly executed—if anything feels off, such as crooked text, lightweight materials, or subpar finishing, then it’s probably a fake.

Some common red flags of replica Rolex include a quartz movement in a model that is supposed to be automatic, non-Rolex made movements inside the case, a date magnification lens that does not magnify the date 2.5 times, text on the dial that bleeds, misspelled words, and transparent casebacks.

A good way to know if your Rolex is genuine is to research the watch's reference number and compare what you read and the images you study with the watch you have in hand. With over 30 years of experience authenticating Rolex, our specialists at Bob's Watches are experts at spotting fake Rolex watches.

Is Rolex Submariner Self-Winding?

Since its introduction in 1953, the Rolex Submariner has always been a self-winding watch. As its name suggests, a self-winding watch does not require regular manual winding on the part of the wearer or a battery for power—it relies on a rotor that moves back and forth thanks to the natural motion of the wearer's wrists. That rotor winds up the mainspring, which in turn powers the watch. A self-winding watch is commonly referred to as an automatic watch.

An automatic watch includes a power reserve, which is how many hours the timepiece can continue running when it is not in motion. Once the power reserve runs out, the automatic watch will stop working until it is back on the wrist again. It is always a good idea to manually wind a self-winding watch if it has run out of power before wearing it again.

Modern Rolex Submariner watches run on Caliber 3130 (for non-date versions) or Caliber 3135 (for date versions) movements with a 48-hour power reserve. These are self-winding mechanical movements, designed and built entirely in-house by Rolex.
