How to Sell Your Rolex Yacht-Master

How to Sell Your Rolex Yacht-Master for the Best Price With Bob’s Watches Want to Get a Great Price for Your Rolex Yacht-Master? Come to Bob’s Watches

The Rolex Yacht-Master first came out in 1992, and has racked up a number of firsts over its 30-years or so in production. To begin with, it became the first Rolex sports watch released in a choice of three sizes. Originally, those were a 29mm ladies model, a full 40mm piece, and a 35mm mid size in-between. These days, the contemporary collection is still comprised of three different size watches, except now they are a 37mm, a 40mm and a recently introduced 42mm.

Along with that novelty, the Yacht-Master was also the watch Rolex selected to present a new metal configuration, consisting of a steel case topped with a platinum bezel; a mixture the brand dubbed Rolesium. It adds a low-key, stealth wealth sort of visual and so is perfectly suited to the personality of the watch itself. To date, it is the only piece in the Rolex portfolio offered in the style. And the final innovation to make its debut on the Yacht-Master came in 2015 when it was the model chosen to unveil the first rubber strap ever to emerge from the Rolex manufacture. The addition of the Oysterflex bracelet, coupled with models cast in Everose with Cerachrom bezels, completely changed up the look of the Yacht-Master and has left the current range split down the middle, between the relatively dressy all-metal examples and the elegant but sporty red gold pieces.

If you currently own a Yacht-Master and are looking for the best place to sell it, Bob’s Watches is the number 1 online site for preowned Rolex. How to Sell My Rolex Yacht-Master With Bob’s Watches

Even though the Yacht-Master is one of the younger members of the Rolex family, there have still been plenty of different versions released over the years. Each one of these numerous models varies in price on the preowned market, based on its materials and its level of demand.

It is vital you get an accurate estimate of just how much your particular watch is worth, and at Bob’s Watches we have made it quick and easy. You can get an immediate assessment by completing the ‘Free Instant Quote Request Form’ on our ‘Sell Rolex’ page. Simply fill in the form with your watch’s name and reference number (if you’re not sure what reference you have, we will show you how to locate the number below) and upload a picture if you have one. Of course, should you prefer to speak to one of our specialist team, just give us a call on (800) 376-7430 and we can discuss your Yacht-Master over the phone.

If you are happy with our quote, we will send you a pre-paid and insured shipping label. All you need to do is parcel up your watch, affix the label and drop the package off at your nearest FedEx collection point. As soon as we receive it, one of our Rolex-trained technicians will record a video of their unboxing and evaluation of your Yacht-Master, confirming its condition and that it matches the description.

We will then contact you, by phone or email, to find out how you would like to be paid. As well as offering the highest market rates, Bob’s Watches also has the industry’s fastest payment methods; either cash, check or same-day wire transfer.

How Do I Find Which Rolex Yacht-Master I Have?

As stated above, the Rolex Yacht-Master varies widely in price on the preowned market. The factors which often affect value can be as simple as its age and condition, through to the kind of metal from which it is made or the comparative rarity of the model. In addition, some of the many sizes the Yacht-Master has been offered in are more popular than others, leading to higher prices, and the evolution of the internal movement, which has also changed several times over the years, can influence the amount for which it will sell.

Each one of the different models and generations of the watch is issued its own reference number, identifying which series it belongs to as well as its bezel and metal type. On the earliest pieces this number is five digits long, with the more recent examples (from around 2000 onwards) having six digits. Rolex engraves these numbers on the top side of the case, in-between the lugs. If you don’t know the reference number of your particular model, it will be necessary to remove the watch’s bracelet to find it. Below we give a rundown of the different Rolex Yacht-Master series, the years they were produced, and their variations.

How Much is My Rolex Yacht-Master Worth?

As you will be able to tell from the table above, there is a wide and varied assortment of Rolex Yacht-Masters, and they come with a correspondingly diverse range of prices. With the series being among the more recent watch families to emerge from Rolex, the earliest pieces have not yet crossed over into vintage territory, something which often adds huge premiums onto certain other, more longstanding models from the brand. As a result, the newer references generally command the highest value on the preowned market.

What Can Affect the Price of My Rolex Yacht-Master?

So far, the Yacht-Master hasn’t picked up any of those little variations common to some vintage Rolex models which can cause massive increases in value. Rare or unusual distinctions, such as a short lived bezel color or an unintentional dial detail—as you might find on some highly sought after classic versions of, say, the Rolex GMT-Master or Daytona—don’t really apply here. So the reason for the differences in highest and lowest price for the same reference are mainly down to age and condition. That being said, the Yacht-Master has been issued with mother of pearl dials in the past.

Due to the nature of the material, each one of these faces is unique, something which is always very much in demand. Consequently, a model with a standard glossy dial will, usually, be cheaper than one with an MOP dial. Some were also given diamond hour markers as well, which will, of course, up the price. Beyond that, certain metal types drop in and out of favor periodically, specifically the color of gold used in cases and bracelets. At the moment, Everose (Rolex’s name for their own red gold alloy) watches are extremely popular, seen as warmer and less showy than yellow. But fashions and tastes change quickly, which is why we keep a constant check on values here at Bob’s Watches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Rolex Yacht-Master and the Rolex Yacht-Master II?

Despite their names, the Rolex Yacht-Master and the Rolex Yacht-Master II are actually very different watches. The Yacht-Master II came out in 2007 and was, at the time, the most complicated piece the brand had ever produced. Made especially for professional sailing competitors, it encompasses the world’s first and only programmable chronograph countdown with a mechanical memory. On top of that, it is an extremely striking looking model and a world away from the customarily modest styling for which the brand is known.

The Yacht-Master, stemming from 1992, takes much of its design from the legendary Submariner, possibly Rolex’s most famous creation. The case, bezel, dial, hands and hour markers are all remarkably similar, but with a softer, more luxurious bent.

Is the Rolex Yacht-Master waterproof?

The Yacht-Master belongs to the Oyster Perpetual group of Rolex watches, meaning it has a self-winding mechanism (the ‘Perpetual’ part) and an Oyster case. Developed in 1926, the Oyster case is formed by screwing the bezel, crown and case back down onto a solid middle section, so creating an hermetically-sealed whole.

As a result, the minimum water resistance rating for an Oyster Perpetual Rolex is 100m, and the Yacht-Master is one such model. That means it is more than robust enough for the vast majority of day-to-day activities most wearers would subject it to, including many water sports like swimming and, of course, sailing. However, it is not suitable to wear a Yacht-Master for Scuba diving or anything too high impact, such as water skiing or jetskiing.

Is the Rolex GMT-Master a good investment?

Although the Yacht-Master has not been around long enough to be considered among Rolex’s litany of truly legendary watches, it still has plenty of plus points in its favor as a potential long-term investment. It is a very highly regarded model, with enough versatility to be worn with anything. It also has plenty of diversity in its makeup, and particularly the newer references, with their Cerachrom bezels and Oysterflex bracelets.

On top of that, several of the earlier Yacht-Masters are no longer being made (the 29mm and 35mm models, along with the all-yellow gold 40mm) which gives them an inherent scarcity on the market, which will only increase over time. Best of all, they are a Rolex! And no other watch brand, or other luxury goods manufacturer for that matter, performs as well as a financial asset.

How much is a Rolex Yacht-Master worth?

From our charts above, you will see that there is a relatively wide scope in pricing for each reference of the Rolex Yacht-Master. The most affordable remain the yellow Rolesor versions of the first generation 29mm model, which start at roughly the $3,500 mark - about the same as the lowest priced Rolex Lady-Datejust from the same era. At the other end of the spectrum, Rolex briefly issued a 40mm piece with a rainbow bezel; as in, one where the surround was fitted with 32 sapphires, eight tsavorites and a diamond, all of varying colors. Sometimes referred to as the Haribo, these can cost into six figures.

But the majority of the modern Yacht-Master range lives in the $10,000 to $25,000 range. In the end, it all comes down to the specific watch, its age, rarity and most importantly, its condition. For the fastest and most accurate assessment of your particular piece, just fill out the ‘Free Instant Quote Request Form’ on the ‘Sell Rolex’ page of the Bob’s Watches website.

When is the best time to sell my Rolex Yacht-Master?

Happily, there isn’t really a bad time to sell your Rolex Yacht-Master. The brand has been the most sought after watch manufacturer for many years now, and demand for their class-leading products is always extremely high. They are bought for a number of reasons; gifts for birthdays or Christmas, to mark important personal or professional milestones, i.e. graduations, promotions or retirements, or simply by those who want to treat themselves to a superb timepiece. As a purchase, Rolex watches have an all-year-round appeal.

Where is the best place to sell my Rolex Yacht-Master?

There is no shortage of places to sell your Rolex Yacht-Master. The vintage and preowned watch industry is now vast, worth billions of dollar a year, and there are plenty of dealers to approach with your piece, both on and offline.

Sadly, as with anything experiencing that level of success, the business has attracted a large number of disreputable traders as well. And, as there is a huge amount of information to know about each watch to gauge its value accurately, it is fairly easy for these less-than-honest brokers to take advantage of the unwary.

Finding an honest place to buy or sell a Rolex watch is actually more important than the watch itself. Here at Bob’s Watches, we are Rolex specialists and our team has decades of experience with the brand. We pride ourselves on keeping completely up-to-date with every aspect which can affect the price of every Rolex model, to ensure our customers receive the best possible deal.

What’s more, we are also the only company to offer the Rolex Exchange program, where we list both the buy and sell price of every watch we handle. That means you can check the approximate market value of your specific model before you make any commitment.

How do I sell my Rolex Yacht-Master?

At Bob’s Watches, we have made selling your Rolex Yacht-Master as easy as possible. You can get an immediate value estimation by just filling in the Free Instant Quote Request Form on our website. Alternatively, give us a call on (800) 376-7430 and chat with one of our team. We just need to know some basic information about your particular watch, such as its reference number, year of manufacture, condition, etc. and we will be able to provide you with an approximate price. If you are using our form, uploading images is a big help too.

If you are satisfied with our offer, all you need to do is package up the watch securely. We will send you a prepaid and insured shipping label—simply attach the label to the box and drop it off at your nearest FedEx collection point. As soon as we receive your Yacht-Master, one of our Rolex-trained technicians will video themselves unboxing your watch and ensuring it matches the description. You will then be contacted to confirm the price and which payment method you prefer; either cash, check or same-day wire transfer.

What if my Rolex Yacht-Master doesn’t work?

We are always happy to take a look at any Rolex watch, whether or not it is in full working order. One of our highly skilled watchmakers can examine your Yacht-Master and assess if it would be economical to repair it and get it running again. And we still offer the best possible price.

Can I trade-in my Rolex Yacht-Master?

Absolutely. You can give us a call anytime on 1-800-494-3708 to discuss trading in your Rolex Yacht-Master.

Can I sell my Rolex Yacht-Master without papers?

Even though a Rolex Yacht-Master sold ‘complete’, meaning with all its paperwork and boxes, etc. will generally be worth more than one without, you can still sell it through Bob’s Watches. Collectors much prefer buying their watches with all the accompanying accessories for a number of reasons, but mostly because they act as a sort of guarantee of authenticity. It is far less likely that a watch with all its papers will be a counterfeit, although it is still possible. Having the original box, warranty card (even though it may have expired), manual and the other identifying material which usually ships with a new Rolex also reduces the chances that the watch may have been stolen too.

How do I know if my Rolex Yacht-Master is genuine?

As we said, Rolex is by far the most successful watch brand in the world. The downside of their unrivalled popularity is the number of fakes currently in circulation, aiming to catch out the unwary. There are simply enormous numbers of these forgeries out there, some of them now so convincing that even seasoned experts have trouble telling them apart from the real thing. Unless you know exactly what to look for on each and every different model, it can be practically impossible to identify the counterfeits. That is why we have Rolex-trained staff on our team, qualified to guarantee the authenticity of everything we buy and sell.
